Optimiser vitesse démarrage PC

Le problème exposé dans ce sujet a été résolu.

Bonjour,

On m’a transmis un ordinateur au boulot. Bien qu’il soit plus récent et puissant (et que c’est un Windows, avec un démarrage différent), j’ai pris conscience que mon PC perso est lent à démarrer. Une idée comment optimiser ça ?

Après, s’il y a rien à faire, sauf mettre un SSD, je me contenterais de cette réponse.

Y a quelques services que je ne connais pas comme nmbd, je suis étonné de voir tor et openvpn en même temps mais je pense que tu sais retirer les composants que tu n’utilises pas au quotidien.

Par exemple, je ne lance pas cups au démarrage mais seulement quand j’ai besoin d’imprimer personnellement. Idem pour tor, mais je comprends quelqu’un qui voudrait que ça soit prêt quand dès qu’elle ou il en a besoin.

Je suis étonné tout de même de voir nmbd dans la chaîne critique. Si c’est vraiment un service type Samba, je pense que tu peux le supprimer ou au moins le bouger de la chaîne critique (jouer avec ses dépendances je suppose).

Ici, l’utilisation d’un SSD est ce qui te fera gagner le plus de temps et de loin.

Il serait intéressant d’avoir des infos plus précises à propos de ce PC portable (ses marque et modèle exactes), de l’OS (lequel ? 32bit ou 64bit ?) et de l’utilisation pour correctement te répondre.

En attendant, si le PC portable est équipé d’un HDD, tout à fait d’accords avec ache, le remplacer par un SSD permettrait de lui redonner un bon coup de boost.

Tout cela me paraît bien long même pour un disque dur à dire vrai. Il faudrait une description de la machine complète comme indiqué plus haut.

Par exemple thermald qui prend 20 secondes alors que c’est un peu démon qui tourne en arrière plan qui n’est pas bien gros à charger depuis le disque dur et consomme peu de ressources ça me paraît énorme. À titre d’exemple sur mon ordinateur avec SSD certes ça a pris… 56 millisecondes pour le charger. Je veux bien que le SSD améliore les choses mais là c’est quand même gros. En fait la plupart des outils qui prennent plus d’une dizaine de seconde sont assez suspects niveau lenteur même avec un disque dur.

En plus de ceux soulevés par ache, à quoi te sert phpsessionclean ? Tu pourrais peut être le couper aussi

Pour le coup, ça ne me choque que moyennement. Le temps indiqué correspond à la différence entre le démarrage et le temps effectif du lancement du service. Ce qui inclue du coup, le temps d’attente des dépendances précédente lancées.

Même en considérant ça, il est vrai que c’est long. Je mets ça sur le dos du fait que ça fait beaucoup de processus concurrents, tant pour le CPU que pour le disque. Avec un SSD, je suis assez confiant qu’il passera sous la barre des 30s.

Visiblement (vu la "critical chain") ton PC attend d’être connecté à internet (ou de timeout) pour te permettre de te connecter à ta session utilisateur. C’est bizarre, je ne vois pas de raison de faire ça pour un ordinateur personnel. (En entreprise il y a des systèmes de gestion centralisée des identités qui passent par le réseau.).

Il faut que tu comprennes d’où vient ta dépendance au réseau et que tu la vires — il suffit peut-être de couper smbd au démarrage ? D’après les nombres de la "critical chain", tu mets 33s à avoir accès au disque et 1m10s pour avoir accès au réseau (entre ufw et smbd). Ça ne veut pas dire que tu booterais en 35s seulement après avoir viré le réseau (d’autres chaînes plus lentes deviendraient la chaîne critique), mais les gains pourraient être considérables quand même.

Ce n’est pas de toute première jeunesse mais ça me semble largement suffisant pour booter bien plus vite que cela.

D’autant qu’apparemment c’est un disque dur hybride. Le processeur est bien assez performant, la RAM sans doute un poil faible pour pas mal d’usages mais pour le boot cela ne devrait pas avoir d’impact.

Ma fille qui a un fixe bien plus vieux a des caractéristiques bien plus faibles et sa machine démarre plus vite que cela (avec Fedora).

Étant donnée la nature de smbd c’est fort probable. S’il n’est pas nécessaire le couper est le mieux (ou le lancer automatiquement quand l’utilisateur se connecte).

Mais malgré tout je persiste que certains services sont vraiment lents comme thermald qui ont peu ou aucune dépendance réelle et est un petit binaire à lancer.

Peut être vérifier avec dmesg s’il y a un problème matériel, regarder la sortie de journalctl -xe s’il y a des erreurs importantes,

Tu peux aussi regarder du côté de l’état du disque dur avec sudo smartctl -a <chemin vers le disque dur> (le chemin étant probablement /dev/sda). S’il a des défauts majeurs qui peuvent expliquer une éventuelle lenteur.

Et bien sûr désactiver les services probablement inutiles (en tout cas durant le boot, après c’est autre chose) qu’on a mentionné pour voir l’impact.

Hum… déjà, je confirme, remplacer le SSHD (mieux qu’un HDD mais pas aussi bien qu’un vrai SSD) par un SSD ne serait vraiment pas du luxe. Par contre, ton PC portable étant équipé d’un emplacement pour SSD SATA de 2,5" + d’un emplacement pour SSD M.2 SATA, il serait pas mal de savoir si il serait possible de booter sur ce dernier. Après, ces derniers étant généralement plus chers, pour le moment, le meilleur choix serait donc probablement un CRUCIAL 1To MX500… il suffira de cloner le SSHD dessus (c’est assez facile à faire, cf. ce tuto).

Enfin, il me semblerait pas mal de passer à au moins 8Go de RAM soit en rajoutant une 2nde barrette de 4Go (exactement la même que l’actuelle afin d’éviter tout problème de compatibilité… si tu arrives à la trouver), soit en la remplaçant par un tout nouveau kit de 2x4Go (toujours en PC4–19.200… ou supérieur car la PC4–25.600 semble à peine plus chère et pourrait permettre un p’tit gain de performances).

Avoir du réseau permet de faire une première synchronisation d’horloge, pour éviter un saut dans le temps (si la RTC ne fonctionne pas / a drifté / autre raison) alors que tout le userspace est en route. Des programmes pourraient mal gérer cela, et les timestamps dans le système de fichier seraient tous potentiellement erronés. Je ne sais pas si c’est la raison pour l’attente dans ce cas. man NetworkManager-wait-online.service semble indiquer que c’est uniquement si certains services ont explicitement besoin de réseau.

Par contre, c’est étrange que nmbd & smbd soient des dépendances de multi-user.target. Peut-être un filesystème en réseau dans /etc/fstab ?

Si tu clones le disque dur, il faut juste penser à modifier le fstab pour qu’il gère correctement les partitions. Il y a aussi des paramètres de gestion du disque dur qui peuvent changer. Et même le bootloader, de toute façon, je ne suis pas sûr qu’il apprécie. À moins que Mint ne gère tout ça de manière automatique, mais j’en doute.

Alors voici les sorties demandées, si vous voyez quelque chose (moi tout me semble bien) :

En effet je ne trouve rien de choquant d’un point de vue système ou matériel. Ton disque dur est un 5400 tours / minutes d’après les données SMART ce qui est effectivement lent, et lors du boot je doute que la partie hybride compense cela, cela devrait être plus visible lors des écritures.

Essaye de désactiver les services mentionnés plus tôt pour voir à quel point cela améliore ta situation.

Si tu ne sais pas le faire, cela se fait avec la commande suivante :

$ sudo systemctl disable <nom_du_service>

Tu peux faire manuellement quand tu as besoin :

$ systemctl start <nom_du_service

Qui lancera le service jusqu’à ce que tu fasses un stop ou quand tu arrêtes la machine. Éventuellement fais un script pour lancer ces commandes quand tu démarres une session de développement pour économiser les ressources quand tu n’en as pas besoin tout en étant rapide à lancer et arrêter. ;)

Merci pour vos retours, j’ai pu désactiver les services évoqués, j’ai gagné quelques dizaines de secondes. Guère impressionnant, mais c’est déjà ça.

Mais comme évoqué, une solution serait un upgrade matériel. Reste à voir si je change uniquement des composants en particulier (SSD, RAM), ou l’ensemble de la machine (qui montre des signes de fatigue, en même temps, en 5 ans et en ayant bien baladé, c’est normal). Il faut que je réfléchisse à la question (usage vs désagrément de la lenteur vs investissement financier).

Une autre piste serait également une réinstallation « propre » de Mint. À force de faire des mises à jour et d’installer/désinstaller des applications, il doit avoir plein de restes qui doivent aussi jouer sur les performances.

Tu étais sur 107s de temps de boot. Si tu gagnes 20s, c’est une amélioration de 20%, pas si mal.

À quoi ressemble la chaîne critique maintenant ? Sont-ce maintenant des services dont tu as bien besoin ? Sinon, peut-être les désactiver, mesurer et recommencer ? (La démarche de profiling+optimisation classique.)
